Raman imaging microscopy is a highly versatile and effective tool for the label-free, nondestructive chemical characterization of materials. Based on the Raman effect, which describes a distinct energy shift in photons scattered by molecules, it can positively identify sample components, visualize their distribution, and even distinguish polymorphs.
This presentation will introduce participants to the latest technique variations and software advances in measurement control, data acquisition and post-processing. Methods covered will include confocal Raman microscopy, Raman-based microparticle analysis and profilometry-guided Raman imaging. Application examples from pharmaceutical and biomedical research that illustrate Raman microscopy’s advantages will be provided, and recent software developments that can benefit multi-user facilities and strictly regulated environments will be described.
