Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry
In a demonstration of Oxford Instruments’ role at the heart of scientific discovery, we’re delighted to share that Andor’s products have been used by the scientists involved in two of the Nobel Prizes awarded for 2022.
Alain Aspect, John Clauser and Anton Zeilinger, who won the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics for their experiments in quantum mechanics, have laid the groundwork for rapidly-developing new applications in computing and cryptography. Andor's single photon sensitive detectors have played a small part in the transformative work carried out within the laboratories of these winners, and indeed within the wider quantum entanglement community.
Carolyn R. Bertozzi has been awarded the 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, honoured for taking click chemistry “to a new dimension” by discovering how to use it in living cells. The technique enables scientists to precisely manipulate cells with chemical tools to learn how they behave, either when healthy or diseased. We are thrilled that Andor’s iXon EMCCD cameras and Imaris Software were able to play a small part in this ground-breaking research.
Our congratulations to all four – and indeed to all the Nobel Prize winners, whose endeavours do so much to further progress in the world.
