Andor Launches ZL41 Wave Workhorse sCMOS Camera

Oxford Instruments – Andor Technology, a world leader in scientific imaging and spectroscopy solutions, today announced the launch of the ZL41 Wave sCMOS camera platform for physical sciences.

The next generation in the highly successful Zyla sCMOS series, ZL41 Wave is the ultimate workhorse camera for Imaging and Spectroscopy. This high-performance and versatile camera platform offers superb speed and sensitivity, exceptional price/performance value, high resolution, spectroscopy modes, extensive software compatibility, high dynamic range functionality and enhanced robustness. Operation without need of a mechanical shutter and a newly enhanced, more robust sensor chamber, ensure extended usage with minimal service intervention.

Featuring up to 82% Quantum Efficiency and < 1 e- read noise floor, ZL41 Wave delivers up to 100 fps from both 4.2 and 5.5 Megapixel sensors, and up to 27,000 spectra/sec, perfectly suited to dynamic imaging or spectroscopic applications such as wavefront sensing, lucky/speckle imaging, BEC dynamics, ion trap quantum computing, X-Ray tomography, hyperspectral imaging or fast spectroscopic monitoring of chemical reactions.

ZL41 Wave excels in the area of quantitative measurement. A wide dynamic range of 33,000:1 is complimented by enhanced on-head intelligence to deliver market-leading linearity of > 99.7%, as well as a 32-bit pixel binning mode. Such capability is ideal for ‘one shot’ imaging and photometric accuracy in high dynamic range targets, for example in astronomical occultation studies or spectroscopic characterisations. Furthermore, the fast frame rate and low noise can be utilized to rapidly accumulate multiple images, massively extending dynamic range and effective well depth.

Dr Colin Coates, Andor’s Head of Product Management for Physical Sciences, said; “ZL41 Wave represents a compelling, highly flexible, and budget-friendly workhorse camera solution for a range of imaging and spectroscopic challenges in physical sciences, and sits well alongside Andor’s suite of high-performance imaging solutions. In astronomy, ZL41 Wave is ideally suited to measuring photometric and astrometric change across timescales ranging from milliseconds to seconds and the cost-effectiveness of ZL41 Wave means the camera is scalable for use in Large Sky Surveys.”
