Andor announces charity partnership with AWARE
Andor is delighted to announce a new partnership with AWARE, the Depression Charity for Northern Ireland.
AWARE has an established network of 23 support groups in rural and urban areas across the country, which are run by trained volunteers. Support groups welcome people with depression and bipolar disorder as well as carers for people with the illness.
AWARE was then chosen as Andor’s Charity of the Year after being nominated by staff member, Aaron Reid. “Many families in Northern Ireland have unfortunately been affected by mental health issues,” said Aaron.
“I have sadly lost family members to untreated mental health problems, and I have personally struggled with mental health in the past. As such, I fully support and appreciate the vital work AWARE is doing to help those in need and to help promote mental well-being and mindfulness.”
Melissa Magee, HR Officer at Andor, added:
“As a company, we are committed to raising awareness of mental health at home and in the workplace. Over the past few years, we have brought mental well-being to the forefront within Andor and have trained five staff in Mental Health First Aid, with the aim of training several more in the coming year.
“We have also conducted mental health awareness training for our managers so that they can better understand and support employees who may be struggling. We have an employee well-being helpline through Unum, which is available to all our staff and their families if they ever need someone to talk to.
“We feel all these areas are important to highlight in the workplace and we want to ensure we continue doing this good work. We are excited to be partnering with AWARE on this journey.”
Staff at Andor have already started their fundraising efforts and are planning to take part in a team relay marathon on 20th September. Four teams of five will commit to running 26.2 miles, that is a total of 104.8 miles in one day, raising funds for AWARE in the process. You can support the challenge by donating through the JustGiving page.
Lisa Abell-Farrelly, Corporate Relationship Officer at AWARE said:
“We are delighted to welcome Andor as our new corporate partner for 2020/21. Poor mental health costs UK employers up to £45 billion per year, and it is so important to make workplace well-being a priority, particularly at this difficult time.
“Andor is doing incredible work to support staff mental health and well-being through training and support. We look forward to the future, working together with Andor to raise awareness and vital funds for mental health in Northern Ireland.”
