X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) instruments work by exposing a sample to be measured to a beam of X-rays.  The atoms of the sample absorb energy from the X-rays, become temporarily excited and then emit secondary X-rays.  Each chemical element emits x-rays at a unique energy.  By measuring the intensity and characteristic energy of the emitted X-rays, an XRF analyzer can provide qualitative and quantitative analysis regarding the composition of the material being tested.

X-MET handheld XRF analysers are specifically designed for positive material identification, alloy analysis and identification and hazardous material analysis (RoHS).  The X-MET3000TXS+ is specifically designed to analyse heavy metals in soil on polluted lands and ore at mining sites.  The X-MET3000TXV+ with vacuum seal measures the light elements in aluminum and titanium alloys.
